I Want To Learn How To Sew!

Sewing has always been a love of mine since I was introduced to in middle school. I'll never forget my home economics class.  I was 12 years old when our teacher introduced us to sewing.  It was then that I knew I would love sewing!  Imagine, if I had not been introduced to it in school, I would have never known how much I love it.  Learning about the sewing machine, threadspatterns, etc., it was all exciting and a little overwhelming.  Where would I begin? It was at that time that I begged my dad to buy me a second hand sewing machine so I could practice sewing at home.  But, with anything that you want to learn to do well, you have to start at the beginning. So...where do you start when you want to learn how to sew:

The Sewing Machine

First, get to know your sewing machine.  So, you may ask, which sewing machine do I choose? There are so many sewing machines on the market, and many of them are not that expensive.

I personally like the White Brand sewing machines made by Viking.  They are no longer available unless you purchase one second hand.

The one thing that I always look for in purchasing a sewing machine is, I look at the bobbin casing, this is the housing that holds the bobbin in place.  I check to see if it is made of metal or of plastic.  If it's plastic, the machine will not have a durable longevity rate.  If the machine parts are metal, chances are it will last you a while. You don't need to spend a lot of money for a good sewing machine, especially if you are just starting out. So, shop around, read reviews and search for that perfect machine that will suit your personal sewing needs.
